Jet lagging

We had a lovely Christmas. Mom and everyone else fell in love with J of course. I have to admit I was a bit worried, because I know how she felt about me divorcing Rob. But as usual, she surprised me.
Other than that – we both have a major jet lag; J´s seems to be even worse than mine. I actually got up this morning and spent a day with Svea; went to the movies and ice-skating. Usually we just stay up at nigh, then spend the day in bed listening to Lana Del Rey. And we’ve watched the entire season of American Horror Story.

There is absolutely no snow in Tallinn right now and it’s really warm, even at night so we’ve been spending lot of time just walking around, spending time in various bars, meeting some old and new friends. I met up with one of the girls who has been reading ID and we have been  e-mailing for months now; she turned out to be really cool and she had the most fascinatingly beautiful and painful story to tell – think I’m gonna use it at some point if she doesn’t mind.

We’ll spend our New Years in Estonia and it is now clear that I have invited way too many people over but honestly – no regrets! ;) Then we’ll spend couple of days in London and should be back in LA by 7th.

Interludes

Eela?

- Mh?

I need to make love to you now.

- Um..? What time is it?

Four a.m. It’s really difficult for me to lay here next to you, I’m aching.

- Oh… Alright then.

Oh my God, baby…

I’ve been constantly traveling back and forth between LA and Vancouver these past 2 months. Now I’m settling in LA for a month or so; still working non-stop, still in love with what I’m doing and even more and madly with my man. Going to Estonia for New Year’s to officially introduce him to my Mom. Bracing myself for that experience…

Life

Just a quick note to let you all know that I'm alive, u know.... kicking. Lot of work lately. Nights on location, mostly. Feeling like an owl really.

Flying to NYC for the weekend to spend some time with BF. Good times :)

Amazing wave of interest and feedback on ID. Most of the readers are really interesting and intelligent people, some of them have very inspiring stories to share. I'm grateful for every e-mail I receive, trying to answer them all, need to make some time to get into the vibe of each.

I have outlined the whole story now and its gonna be about 25 chapters, give or take a few, so we're not even half way through yet, people. Bear with me, eh? Next: introducing Emily. I know you have been waiting for this one ;)

Love you all! Gotta run...

Leaving you with this:

Oh, I hear girls are trying to contact Simon. That's funny.

Happy dance

The past week I have been walking around with constant smile on my face.

Since we got back from Cannes, I've wrapped up in Toronto and we are in LA now. The wrap party was really emotional because the cast and crew on this one were really one of the best I have ever worked with. In every sense. They are great as people and friends but I also learned a lot by working with them.

Now I'm on this project in LA that is not as demanding, but is really fun. Americans really know how to crack you up! And I get to spend couple of months with BF which is a definite bonus.

But now... to the happy dance!

I've been offered a position of an assistant music supervisor. And those of you who know me really well, know that this has been my dream for a long time now. I thought that the opportunity would come some day, you know... later in life. But never in a million years would I have thought that this could happen now. In 2011. Never. But it did. And now I'm just doing my happy dance!

Cannes: originally posted on 11th of May

I have arrived.

Big crowd.

Moderate jet lag.

It's sunny and warm, gonna unpack my dresses.

More latter :*

Strong ambience - note: old posts are back. Oiginally posted on 12th of May

I'm having lunch.

Food is divine! (yes, I'll be posting more food pics. Yes...)
By now I need an ID to get into my hotel. Apparently lot of high profile guests. And with them come paps with their low slung hard core gear. Paps kinda freak me out. BF will arrive on Friday and I'm sure there will be people trying to snap pics. Whenever I see a camera I just switch to I-don't-know-that-man mode. I realize that's stupid, but it's unintentional, visceral.
Last night we were heading to the opening night afterparty and a man with a camera stepped out of the dark. I jumped back and almost fell over. Doorman caught me, took one look at me and said to the man: elle a peur. And he was right...

Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris was a lovely Parisian fairytale. I felt that. But I still like Manhattan better.
Julia Leigh's Sleeping Beauty creeped me out and not wholly for good reasons. Lot of nudity. And some good advice: match your lipstick to the color of your labia. But it kinda left me with the feeling that it wasn't going anywhere.
Before the screening somebody shouted: Raoul! in the Debussy. That is a part of a lovely old tradition. Apparently once upon a time this guy was saving a seat for his buddy Raoul and as the screening was about to start and seats where scarce he was despairingly yelling for his friend to hurry up. So this tradition is kept alive and it is a constant source of puzzlement for newcomers.
Got a job offer yesterday. But, you know, this is Cannes. Here movies get announced not made... Place is totally Gaga by night ;)

Bon appétit, mes amis!

Animalistic booing

Booing at the end of Tree of Life screening at the Lumiere was ugly. Who boos at films?

The movie was disjointed, sure... still it had astonishingly beautiful cinematography, fantastic montages and amazing score. It was like beautiful, moving, hypnotizing painting.

But just like I still prefer Manhattan to Midnight in Paris; it's much the same for Tree of Life - I prefer The Fountain.

In other news.... hotel security in Cannes is stepping up. Guards all over our floor, I now need ID to get into hotel.

Right now we're having brunch.

Yesterday was sunrise party night/morning. Cannes is extremely intense.

Loving every minute of it!

We had a lot of fun.

And I drank way too much.

Won't happen again.

Any time soon.

Cannes

So it looks like blogger crashed and removed my last posts.

I don't feel like repeating myself.

If you didn't catch my thoughts on Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris and Julia Leigh's Sleeping Beauty or how paps freaked me out before opening night afterparty or how I love the tradition of “Raoul!” at Debussy screenings or my latest job offer or how everything went Gaga by night... I can tell you all about it over a glass of wine.

But as for now... my BF has arrived, I feel happy and satisfied. For we just had dinner, of course... and now we are going to the party and I promise to try not to go to the I-don't-know-that-man mode when someone puts a camera on us. So there you have it, mon amis...

I'm leaving you with the news of the rent prices in Cannes right now. 19 000 EUR is about 26 000 CAD.

PER NIGHT!

à bientôt!

South of France

I'm about to board my flight to Cannes and I just read the morbid news about Diana's death photo to be shown in a doc at Cannes Film Festival. Not sure how I feel about that.

Svea, baby, I'm posting a short update for you right now and I'll try to write some more on the plane where I'll have peace and solitude as per request of my BF I have an empty seat next to me. (It's kind of a funny story. Maybe I'll tell you sometime).

And I do hope to see some of you while I'm in Europe :)

My life in dialogue

I've been watching you work.

- You have? Why?

No! No... I like it, it's very inspiring.

- Oh... ok.

I like the way your hands move.

- Where is this conversation going?

I lack a filter between my brain and my mouth.

- …

Now I'm just making it worse.

- ...

If you feel the need to comment, I'd appreciate it if you do that here and not under random posts, (Simon...;)

Prologue

I've posted the prologue of ID. Here: Prologue

And I'm at the airport, heading home. Gonna miss the warmth; in every sense.

Southbound

I have a week off. Went to Atlanta and Baton Rouge with my BF. Weather is nice and we've been having a lovely time doing absolutely nothing.

Back home tomorrow. It's been kinda Spring-ish but rainy in Vancouver. Not missing the rain!

Svea, I'll start posting your story tomorrow. For everyone else: story'll be in Estonian with no translated recaps, so, Em, stage is all yours. I have a feeling it's gonna be a long one.

And I'm going to Cannes this year. Lovin' that!

Tremors

I'm not gonna write about the earthquake in Japan or the tsunami warning here in Vancouver or how our set and crew got evacuated, because I've talked with most of you on the phone about that already.

We're not behind the schedule at all, which is great, because I've got my own schedule cut out to the millisecond, so I'm juggling these long days and short days and night shoots etc. on two sets like a mad woman that I am.

So on Tuesday I was leaving set around 8 PM and we were in a car heading out from the woods. I was on the back seat and as we were driving down this tiny road real slowly suddenly there was this kind of a unearthly scream and there was a blond woman pressed against my window. And she was really hysterical and it scared the hell out of me. My heart kinda jumped and I believe I was screaming as well, cause it really looked like we were under a zombie attack. So as I was hyperventilating on the back seat, the guy driving rolled down his window and yelled “No stars here!” rolled the window up again and drove away. Apparently the woman was a paparazzi and/or a fan with the camera and I guess she was hoping to get the picture of the set or one of the actors. But this is just nuts, people, you don't attack random cars in the middle of the forest. What are you? An animal? Actually I think animals would never do that... And in all honesty; why would you want to take a picture of the movie set? There's nothing there, its not that interesting, it just ruins the movie magic. I suppose I could understand it if it were one of these grand sets like the one they built for Harry Potter: you know they built the whole street where Harry lived and the school and it was something to look at. But when the set is just a couple of green screens in the woods with actors standing on markers... really? How is that interesting? Wait for the movie, geez.

Anyway, I got quite a scare and next day on the set I had this massive headache. And when it got really bad I went to the nurse, she took my blood pressure and it was 150. I know! Mental, right? So she said that I must be taken to the hospital and while I was sitting there waiting for the car everyone was gushing over me and people were talking to each other saying “Oh my God, she's so young” like I was dying.

I was taken to the hospital and they, of course, called Rob (who is still listed as my emergency contact, just because I haven't been dying for a while, you know...). And it was really late in London so Rob got all worked up and yelled at me, as usual. And I, with my heightened blood pressure and all, was the calm one asking “How is this helpful?” whenever I got a word in. But, yeah, I know, Rob you're just worried about me. I know you think I work too much, but believe me if I stop I'll be even worst.

And my BF also freaked out. He's shooting in Mexico and he was dead set on coming to Vancouver. I had to stop him by threatening that I'll never call him again if something happens to me.

Doctors told me that the high blood pressure was a reaction to the untreated cold and stress combination and I got some drugs and I'm all better now. So I guess I'll be around. Don't you worry.
I have a day off and I'm going to get my hair done and I suppose I'll be answering your calls once you have read this post. But, really, I'm fine, don't panic. You too, Em. Luv ya.

Cold

It has been a long week.

I've been working early mornings in the snow and I've got a cold. Actually it was even worst when the snow was melted with water for the shoot. Then we were just stomping and sliding around in the mud. And yes, I fell. So I've been kinda grumpy. At first it gave me some comfort watching other people struggling with same problems but now it just gives me heavy chills when someone walks to the set barefoot or practically naked.

Next week is gonna be hectic. I'm still juggling two jobs and I'll be putting in long hours. Svea's been asking about her story and, sure enough, I've started writing it. I think I'll start posting in April though. I'm gonna fallow a time line so the story will make some sense in my own head. And all of you following my blog will have a part in the story (ha ha. No, really). So this should build up your interest to learn some Estonian. Although I just noticed that I struggle while writing in Estonian (and English and French) so now I'm kinda feeling that I'm not fluent in any of my languages and it really should bum me out, but I choose to blame it on my runny nose and stuffy head.

And I miss my man. He's really good for me.

Oscars 2011

It really was one helluva half assed production: all the award show cliches scraped together and topped with Back to the Future spoof copied from Scream Awards.

Here's Helena Bonham Carter expressing my feelings on the topic:

No fucking awesome!

Farrago

Just a quick hodgepodge of two bacchanalia (I know...): yesterday was Estonian Independence Day. And it is a joyous occasion, so congratulations!
Here are guests from Vatican arriving to the reception:

I'm loving the footwork. Seriously.

And the other thing I'm loving today is the opening speech Ricky Gervais wrote for The Oscars. You can read all of it here : Ricky Gervais

They should use some of this.

JF
Hello and welcome to The 83rd Academy Awards,
Live from Los Angeles.

AH

That's foreign for City of Angels.
And this room is certainly filled with those angels.
(Applause)
JF
Oh Anne you are naughty. In a respectful, wholesome way.
(Nodding and smiling)

Off to work. It's cold!

Homecoming

We've been in Vancouver for two days now. City feels nice. Homey. My apartment feels homey. I haven't had time to unpack yet, but I can already see that I'll be needing a bigger bookcase.

I've been offered a job in LA for this summer and I'll have to make a decision by the end of this week. I was kinda hoping to stay home for a bit longer and I'm juggling two jobs at the moment; one of which will wrap by the end of April and the other in June, so if I take this gig there will be no rest for the wicked... all work and no play makes me a really dull girl! BF is kinda pressuring me to take this job cause it looks like he'll be in the city too, so.... and I do like the ways he's trying to convince me ;)

I have added a page to my blog. If you scroll down you'll notice... ID. I'll be writing a story for Svea. When she was a little girl I used to tell her stories about my travels, work, things I did, people I met and to make it interesting for her I added adventures, turned some people into mystical creatures, gave life to inanimate objects etc. Our mom used to call me pocket-Lewis-Carroll (what a compliment). So, now when Svea's a teenager I'll need to spice up the story. I'll write it in Estonian so (ha ha) most of you will not be able to read it. Unless Emily will try to translate it for you. Whatcha think, Em? ;) I'll let you know when I start posting, it'll take some time as I am swamped right now.

Off to work now. Its gonna be a field day today. Literally. We'll be on the field! yar.

Banksy Oscars

Last week I was in LA. Briefly. And, yes, I did see the Banksy Oscar mural.

I was not impressed. Suppose, I was kinda hoping that Banksy will be like Godard, who was all like: the honorary Oscar? Thanks, u guys! But I'm busy that day, reading a book.

And I also don't get the Star Wars plot: what's it supposed to be? An analogy of what? Pop culture? Consumerism?

All in all, it makes me think that it all is just a big pose and if Banksy was invited to one of those fancy Hollywood tea-parties where you can hear veneers click, he would get all giddy and dress up real nice...

In other news: we a wrapping here in Baton Rouge and I have started packing. It's a heavy job itself, even more so when paired with moaning, but we'll be leaving to Vancouver together and then after a week he'll start shooting in Mexico, so cant really blame me for distance.

I'm off to work now. Early morning 2nd unit!

Super Bowl

Yesterday I turned on my TV and laid out some food like everybody else around here.

Emily, Miri and BF joined in and we tried to act out the super-bowl-night. Unfortunately, Miri hates sports and on top of that she's Canadian, so she couldn't care less. I'm from Europe where we play soccer and the ball is round...well, like the ball's supposed to be... really. Our only testosterone filled body (also from Europe btw) was lounging on the couch with a class of wine and the book. So the role of true American was left to Em who actually grew up watching football and I do believe that at some point during her identity crisis in high school she was running around with a pair of scary pom poms. Em, like a true trooper, was fallowing the game and taunting us, but at one point she did say that the game this year wasn't as exciting. Everybody kinda agreed.

So, me and Miri were gulping down wine (I know, I know.... it's supposed to be beer, but...well.... yeah...) and arguing about how big of an injustice would it be if Social Network landed best movie at the Oscars. I've seen King's Speech four times now and am convinced that it is the best movie of 2010. Miri was pointing out that I am biased when it comes to Colin Firth, adding smugly that if he starred in Tron I would be praising that movie. I so would not! :p Although there were some really tight bodysuits... and I wouldn't mind seeing Colin Firth.... gah... no, it has to be suit, suit does it for me.

Anyway, at that point Em muted her game and asked if he was on my List. For you non-Americans: apparently every man and woman in US has a List. List being an ever changing list of names okeyd by your partner consisting of celebrities that you're allowed to shag if at some disturbing point in time you'll run into each other and, I'm guessing, you both were really drunk, desperate and/or horny. This is a very dark list we're talking about here.

After some arguing and Miri reminding me of the sharp-intake-Hello I gave him when we were introduced in Cannes on 2009 I resigned and we had a first name on my List.

But then it turned out that you're allowed to put five names on your list and I couldn't, for a life of me, come up with any other names besides Conan O'Brien but even with him I would like it to be more like us sitting naked in the pool filled with whipped cream cracking jokes on Andy Richter sitting at the other end of the pool. In a suit. Perv, I know...

So, then I wanted to know if my list should be limited to males only, because I was thinking about Dakota Fanning (17 this months). God, I'm such a perv...
And at that point BF made himself known by coughing and lowering his book (Fitzgerald non the less. Such a turn on. For me. Perv, I know...). I asked if he had a List that needed to be okeyd and if he was ok with my Colin-Firth-list. He said NO, but he would be willing to put together a list of girls I am okeyd to get it on with. With him watching.

So, anyway... who won?

Kristjan. Let's see...

Ok, I'm now pulling up my post from 13th of Oct 2010.
Here it is:

Minu nominentide nimekiri:

  • The Social Network: selline aastalõpu boxoffice hitt ei jää kindlasti märkimata.
  • The Kids Are All Right: mu isiklik selle suve indie-lemmik.
  • Black Swan: ballett. Hands down!
  • Toy Story 3: Pixari siiani kõige võimsamalt teeninud animatsioon.
  • The Fighter või 127 Hours: üks painav inimkogemus peab kindlati olema.
  • Winter's Bone: I like the mood of this one. It's so current.
  • Love and Other Drugs: there should be one sexy movie in the midst ;)
10 on täis, aga ma lisan siia lõppu veel paar musta hobust: Coenite True Grit ja Shutter Island.

Jaanuaris siis näeme!

And here are the nominations:

  • Black Swan (Fox Searchlight) A Protozoa and Phoenix Pictures Production
Mike Medavoy, Brian Oliver and Scott Franklin, Producers CHECK

  • The Fighter (Paramount) A Relativity Media Production
David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Mark Wahlberg, Producers CHECK

So, what can I say....

YOU LOSE!

One of Estonian filmmakers is also nominated for Best Short Film.
  • The Confession (National Film and Television School) A National Film and Television School Production Tanel Toom

It should be a big day for otherwise shitty and non-existent Estonian film industry.

And Banksy is nominated.
Documentary.
BANKSY.
Thats some heavy irony right there. Ricky Gervais should host that show.

Buttie (for Simon)

My very English BF made me a bacon buttie (down, Simon!) last night after I came home from set with a seriously sour mood, aching back and only one night to come up with some major alterations.

It's a scary looking bun (down, Simon!) with a lot of greasy ham stuck between it (rock on, Simon!), but it (plus a beer) was just what I needed and now I'm all happy and fluffy and feathery... (Oh my....).

Haa, Happy Birthday, Simon! Luv ya! ;*

Blues

So it's been madness all around here. We've had mega long night shoots and endless days on bluescreen. In fact, I'm quite sick of blue by now.

People have been sick (including me) and most are really tired, but as it is a very fun crowd to work with we channel our sleep deprivation and fever into hollow coughing/sneezing marathons and inappropriate giggling.

My moving back to Vancouver has been somewhat delayed due to production so I'll be back home around 20th of February.

I suppose I'll miss the warmth.

Among other things.

That I don't want to talk about.
But I'm sure Emily will email you all the details anyway, so... yes, there has been some drama.
Dramatic gestures. Kneeling.
I'm sure it will all work out. I've been traveling around all my life, as long as its on the globe it's not a distance. And I'm not cynical and calculating as Emily so nicely put it, I just think it wouldn't do us any good if we both totally lost it. Besides, his main fear seems to circle around the notion that I'm something that can be lost. And that is not the case. I know how I feel.
Anyway, there's still time and as I'm channeling Scarlet O'Hara right now, I'm not gonna think about it today, I'm gonna think about it tomorrow.

And now I'm gonna stare me some bluescreen. Yay!

Today' s thing of beauty, class and style

Straight from the 60' s, here it is, in the middle: the most classy snack arrangement ever. A tin foil with weenies. The only way to beat that is to swallow your own head. Honestly.
And I love the fact that they have labeled everything: otherwise you would be so confused.

Celebration

Yesterday we celebrated David Bowie's birthday with a bottle of champange. Each.

So we ended up listening to Vampire Weekend and dancing in the backyard. Which thoroughly shocked my neighbors, who are really nice people, but hate dancing now that they have seen Bristol Palin doing it. Not IT, I mean.... gosh, I'm gonna wrap this up right now....

2011

This has been an interesting week.

We spent Christmas with my...eeee... (I don't know what to insert here. He's been gently pushing me for the answer to that …. (blank) ... as well, but, you know, I'm originally from Eastern Europe, we don't talk about our feelings, we don't label our significant others and we never ever act like something emotional could affect us. Hell, we're made of stone, of slate. So as he keeps trying to chisel me out, I'll call him my MAN)... so, we spent Christmas with my man's family. Everyone was really lovely, kept calling me “lass” and hugging me. Before meeting his parents, I, as always, was really panicky and almost had a coronary. These type of social accouters tend to freak me out (not that I had so many).

On 27th I flew back to NY cause we actually had scheduled a meeting with editors, so we were sitting there wondering about that fact, getting very little work done.

On the bright side: I saw Prince perform and it was (for the lack of the better word) AWSOME.

So my.... MAN.... joined me for the New Year's celebration in NYC. I'm not going to get into the details, but it was LOVELY. Do hope my whole year's going to be like that....

Now we're back in Baton Rouge, I'm lying in bed, I have a flu. And my BF is taking care of me. THERE, I almost spelled it out! All this flu medicine, fever and love is making me lose some of my slate...

Happy New Year!
